Introduction

GSL has integrated Esri ArcGIS mapping with HillTop. This feature provides visitors with an ineractive map, which lists customized points-of-interest.

Step 1 - Create a new Post Type

To place a map on your page, you will first need to create a map-specific Post Type. Start by creating a Post Type with an appropriate title, eg. "Map" or "Event Locations."

To review how to create a Post Type, see Create a New Post Type.

Step 2 - Add Posts to your Post Type

Add Posts to your newly created Post Type. These Posts will contain the individual POIs that populate your map, with one POI per post.

Begin by mousing over the "Posts" tab in HillTop's top menu, then select the Map-specific post type (ex. "Maps" or "Events").

Next, click the "+Create" button in the right sidebar to view the "Add Post" form. Complete the form by first entering the title and content. When a POI is selected on the map, clicking the "Read More" link will display the title and content to visitors.

Next, use the map controls located in the "Map Location" section to enter the POI information:

  • Coordinates: Search for you location in this field. Search using a street address, city, state, and/or zip code, then press the "Locate" button to generate a list of potential locations. Select the appropriate location by clicking on it.
  • Location Name:  Enter the name of the location or the name of the event taking place. This functions as the title of the POI on the map.
  • Location Abstract:  Enter the content you would like to associate with your POI. For example, a description of the location itself, or of the event taking place there.
  • Location Icon:  Select a Mapping Icon to associate with your new POI. By default, a red "pin" icon will be used.
